THE POSITION

Novatel is in search of a Regulatory Technologist/Engineer to work with a dynamic and energetic team.

Responsibilities:

· Preparing new products for certification

· Obtaining product at early stages of development in order to become familiar with device prior to starting certification efforts

· Ensuring certification samples are suitable for testing  (good working order, correct firmware load, calibrated correctly, etc)

· Prepare host devices (laptops) with required software tools / drivers/ operating systems

· Ensuring correct firmware NV items are present and kept current in test product

· Identify methods of test (AT commands, Terminal applications, Customer GUI’s)

Travel to various test labs in order to assist with testing activities

· Identify and solve problems due to the test Lab’s unfamiliarity with the product

· Work schedules can be erratic while traveling (long hours, and late shifts)

· Troubleshoot problems encountered with testing (Hardware and Software) If technical problems persist, then effective communication required back to the engineering team.

· Ensure test house(s) are performing testing in an efficient manner. (time/cost)

Administrative

· Create test schedules for feed back to engineering teams

· Keep track of certification spreadsheets including pass/fail results

· Drive programs to completion

· Evaluate new firmware for continuing compliance

· Research various test requirements for both internal and customer needs for various technologies and countries

· Attend various meetings in order to evaluate product testing requirements (regulatory and industry)

· Attend various meetings in order to evaluate product test scheduling and prepare resources accordingly


REQUIREMENTS

· Diploma in a technical/science subject or an equivalent qualification

· 2 or more years experience in the real-time, embedded software or hardware testing environment.

· Able to interpret test specifications and standards

· Excellent analytical determination and problem solving skills / problem tracking / test reporting

· Ability to work in a small team environment where self-driven and self-motivated capabilities are key

· Knowledge and/or experience with Office suite, databases and report writing

· Good knowledge and/or experience of using software engineering test tools

· Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written English.

· Must be willing and able to travel up to 2 weeks at a time or as and when required

· Full driving license and eligibility to cross national borders

Skills Nice to Have

· Some knowledge of CDMA/UMTS/GSM/GPRS is preferred

· Knowledge of FCC or international regulatory process

· Experience with CTIA test plans (OTA)

· Other experience working with telecommunication protocol skills would be considered.

· Experience using 2G or 3G or related RF test equipment.


The candidate should have an interest in the wireless industry and a basic understanding of wireless protocols. It would be preferable to have some programming experience and be familiar with Microsoft Visual Studio.
