CDMA2000 1X

What is 1xEV-DO?
EV-DO is the first phase of the third generation (3G) implementation of CDMA2000 and an approved 3G standard for fixed, portable and mobile applications. EV-DO is optimized for high performance and low cost packet data services. It devotes a 1.25 MHz channel for packet data traffic yielding peak data rates up to 2.4 Mbps*. EV-DO is under the auspices of the 3GPP2 – Third Generation Partnership Program 2 – which coordinates specifications and requirements of third generation CDMA technology.

What is 1xEV-DO Rev.0 & Rev.A?
1xEV-DO Rev 0 was the original version of 1xEV-DO.  Revision 0 offered data rates up to 2.4 Mbps, averaging 300-600 kbps in the real world. 1xEV-DO Rev. A offers fast packet transfer on both the forward (downlink) and reverse (uplink) links along with air interface enhancements that reduce latency and improve data rates.   The maximum downlink rate from 2.45 Mbps to 3.1 Mbps.  Rev. A incorporates an approximate 12 time improvement in the maximum uplink data rate, from 225 Kbps to 1.8 Mbps.

Benefits to Users
EV-DO brings personal wireless broadband services to a wide range of customers from enterprise users to personal users and students. At data rates over 15 times faster than CDMA2000 1X, EV-DO is ideal for mobile business users needing to access data intensive applications and attachments. Users can access email, graphic intensive web pages, and corporate databases in a fraction of the time of previous versions resulting in a significant competitive advantage and increased productivity. Customers can realize the benefits of EV-DO technology instantly and recoup initial costs in a matter of months.

Are all EV-DO, CDMA2000 1X and CDMAOne networks interoperable?
EV-DO is fully backward compatible with CDMA2000 1X and CDMAOne (IS-95A). As a result, users can roam between coverage areas without loosing the connection. EV-DO will also be supported in future versions of cdma2000 including CDMA2000 1xEV-DV (1X Evolution, Data and Voice).

Applications Access to email, the Internet, corporate databases, fax, voice, two-way short message service (SMS), multimedia messaging service (MMS), images, video, sound, music, data intensive attachments, web broadcasts, and video conferencing
